Carole's World Adventure Presentations


World adventure traveler, freelance photographer, writer, radio co-host and speaker, Carole Herdegen, is currently available for talks at group meetings.

With her personable and friendly approach, Carole has been able to establish a bond of confidence with peoples in the far corners of the world and has captured their personalities and character traits in photography and written documentaries.

Having a special interest in the lesser-known cultures of the world and the remote world regions in which they exist, she has visited many destinations most of us only hear of or dream about.

Some of her adventures include:
  • driving her own dog sled team in the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Range of Alaska
  • visiting the remote Himalayan countries of Bhutan and Nepal and Tibet, China and Ladakh, India
  • living with the Dayak people in Borneo
  • visiting the Machu Picchu and rainforests of Peru
  • photographing the mountain gorillas in the Verunga Mts. of Zaire and Rwanda
  • photographing the orangutans in the rainforests of Borneo
  • photographing the animal wonders of Africa's Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater
  • scuba diving in Australia's Great Barrier Reef and Cayman Islands
  • underwater shark-feeding in the reefs of the Pacific Ocean
  • camping in Arnham Land with Australia's aboriginal people
  • visiting many of Egypt's ancient tombs, temples and pyramids
  • visiting many of the ancient ruins and mosques in Iran
  • climbing Africa's highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro (18,750 ft.)
  • visiting the primitive tribes of Papua New Guinea on the Sepik River and attending a Sing-Sing in Mt Hagen
  • traveling the waters of the Amazon and the Nile
  • trekking through the jungles of Guatemala to locate ancient ruins
  • visiting Lhasa, Tibet, the "roof of the world"
  • participant in an EARTHWATCH project in Western Australia to re-establish extinct population of two small marsupials
  • participant in an EARTHWATCH project in China's Gobi desert to study depleting water levels
  • bicycled to the western part of Cuba from Havana
  • visiting the Galapagos Islands and the old colonial cities of Quito and Cuenca in Ecuador
  • participated in an EARTHWATCH project off the coast of New Zealand studying dolphins
  • free-fall parachuting and other extreme sports in Queenstown, New Zealand, "The adrenaline capital of the world".
  • participated in GreatEscape 2004: The Global Scavenger Hunt visiting cities in 10 countries (United States, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, India, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Spain and Portugal)
  • accepting the sporting challenge of tandem hang gliding
  • experiencing flight in a two-person, Dacron winged ultralight plane
  • spelunking in a cave in the rainforest in Belize to find a ancient Mayan burial ground
  • kayaking the Yukon River from Dawson City, in the Yukon to Eagle, Alaska
  • traveled the Silk Road in China from Kashgar in Xingjiang Province to Yinchuan in Ningxia Autonomous Region
  • traveled extensively in India, Morocco, Panama, Guatemala, Japan, and Burma
Complementing her world experiences, Carole Herdegen possesses a personal knowledge of Western Europe where she lived for 18 years and during which she traveled to North Africa, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Orient.
