The Great Escape 2004

By Carole Herdegen

Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is a kaleidoscope of Islamic traditions in a cosmopolitan setting. The ever-changing skyline is dominated by modern buildings with their glass and concrete towers. Each is unique and exotic. Dubai was our 24-hour repositioning stop with no scavenges to perform. Fortunately we took this opportunity to rest and relax, hence no photos.

Morocco was our next destination that required visits and scavenges to Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, Fez and Tangiers, all providing a generous sense of the country's richness in culture and civilization. My previous visits had been to Marrakech and Agadir in the south. In the north there are great Islamic monuments, libraries and museums where researchers come from all over the world to study. In the city of Fez there are more than 9,400 streets, alleys and blind corridors in its medina.
