The Great Escape 2004

Cambodia is the heart and soul of the ancient Khmer Civilization (802-1432 AD). Here one will discover the magnificent complex of temples and palaces of Angkor with their elaborate carvings. It made me wonder what it must have been like when the French explorer, Henri Mouhot, in 1868 stumbled upon these ruins smothered in the jungle. Much of today's population suffered through the relatively recent hell from 1975-79 during the reign of Pol Pot's and the Khmer Rouge. Cambodia lost a million people through executions and starvation. Yet these brave and smiling people open their arms today to the flood of tourists making pilgrimages to the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat.
