The selection of Carole to participate in GreatEscape2004: The Global Scavenger Hunt was announced by William D. Chalmers, event organizer on March 22, 2004.

"Spring 2004, and I found myself spending three somewhat challenging and often grueling weeks traveling to 10 countries on 4 continents with 5 teams of two persons each on a Global scavenger hunt. The founder, creator and organizer of this travel adventure, Bill Chalmers, must be recognized and applauded for the challenges and rules of scavenger play that set the stage for a true spirit of competition. He provided all of us with both the plan and purpose of making positive connections with the peoples in the countries we traveled . In each new country, the scavenges were delivered in booklet form with travel riddles, cultural clues, questions to be answered and foods to be tasted."

Travelers from more than thirty nations had applied to compete in this international event that is not for the novice but requires experienced and seasoned global travelers knowledgeable in interfacing with a variety of peoples and displaying ability to compete and overcome cultural barriers as well as natural and man-made obstacles. In fact, by the finish of the competition, the teams have collectively amassed more than one million miles of travel by camel, elephants, ox-carts, feluccas, dhows, rickshaws and planes, walking, bicycling and boating.

The winners of this year's GreatEscape2004 are

1st Place - Alicia Bleier and Vicki Sheahen
2nd Place - Steve Belkin and Randy Hall
3rd Place - Carole Herdegen and Raj Krishnan

Bill calls the Great Escape, "A Blind Date with the World". This added even more excitement because we did not know where our next destination would be until we received our airline tickets.

To make this journey more meaningful, I will now provide a brief glimpse of each place we visited through photography. Please look for more detailed articles of my experiences in the weeks and months to follow.
